J&S Construction is Hiring!
Spokane Washington & Coeur d'Alene Idaho

J&S Construction is a fast-growing residential remodeling company serving clients throughout the Spokane Washington and Coeur d'Alene Idaho area. We are a Licensed Home Improvement contractor and a General Contractor. Our focus is primarily on High-End Custom kitchen, bath, and basement projects, with some whole-house and commercial projects as well.  J&S Construction sets the bar high in terms of craftsmanship, client care, and professionalism. We are a young, agile company with strong market expansion goals that will create career growth opportunities for qualified individuals.

The J&S Team is built on trust, communication, and accountability, both in the field and office. Team members are empowered to work together to identify problems, develop solutions, and execute on them. We value high commitment aligned with company goals, as well as healthy work/life balance.

J&S Construction is seeking the right individual to step into a Lead Carpenter/Project Management role. This is primarily a "tools on" position but will involve some office work and production meetings. We will consider individuals with less management experience provided they are a quick study and demonstrate solid decision-making and organizational skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A Lead Carpenter is completely responsible for the successful completion of the job, which includes being on time, on budget, and maintaining a high level of quality. In addition to being an excellent framing and finish carpenter, he or she should exhibit good judgment, high ethical standards, good oral and written communication skills, and strong leadership abilities.

  • Must have 3-5 years experience as a carpenter.
  • Maintain your own set of tools necessary to complete everyday building.
  • Ensure a daily log is uploaded to include pictures for each project worked on each day.
  • Supervise, train, and assign tasks for carpenters.
  • Work safely and ensure others do as well.
  • Clock in and out – cost coding appropriately.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and with high quality.
  • Keep the job site clean and organized every day.
  • Protect our client's property. Secure the job site before you leave for the day.
  • Create a positive work environment by being the example to follow.
  • Manage trades and subs while ensuring high standards are maintained.
  • Review contracts and plans before accepting any project. Ask questions.
  • Maintain a plan for 2 weeks ahead at all times. Review with Manager.
  • Submit material lists with a one-week lead time to reduce materials runs.
  • Track materials being delivered to job sites and verify against order forms.
  • Handle the initiation of all change orders with the homeowner.
  • Communicate with homeowners daily – address concerns immediately.
  • Be available during workdays to answer questions, etc.
  • Schedule inspections as needed and be on-site when appropriate.
  • Manage punch lists weekly to reduce loose ends at the job finish. Post on shared job folder.
  • Follow through on the completion of a job, even after you start another project.
  • Attend weekly Production Meetings. Prepare ahead of time and follow the agenda.
  • Review job cost journals and attend job autopsies as needed.
  • Attend trade days when appropriate and when possible.
  • Complete annual reviews for carpenters and helpers – addressing concerns and praising good work in the moment. Review goals and establish new ones.
